Sons will, for the first time, host first division football at the DFS after humiliating Airdrie 4-1 at their own stadium. The first goal came after only 9 minutes Aggy played a wonderful through ball to Craig Dargo and he lifted the ball over Grant Adam and into the net. Dargoals was at it again minutes later he capitalised on a slip by an Airdrie defender to nip in and tick home his second of the game 4-1 sons on agg. Derek Holmes briefly gave the Diamonds hope when he slotted home from close range however all hope was extinguished on the hope of half time,Tony Wallace ran in from the right skinned both the Airdrie left back and Centre back before passing the ball to Mark Gilhaney who smashed the ball high beyond Adam. The victory was confirmed on 55 minutes when Wallace showed good skill to beat the Airdrie defence and roll the ball home. After the 2-1 win over Airdrie on wednesday (Prunty and Wallace for Sons a Bain penalty for the diamonds after Jamie Stevenson appeared to be shot from the stand as he went over without any contact but thankfully wasnt to injured to play on. The other highlight was Paul Lovering trying to get Tony Wallace sent off with a dive that could of got no more than 5/10. Sons travel to new broomfield hoping for the first experience of first divison football at the rock.Four buses are going and sons fans have been given their own stand,Gilhaney and Dargo are doubts however Mark Lamont should be back to full fitness.
Dumbarton entertain Airdrie United at the DFS stadium tonight and for the first time at the new stadium it will be broadcast love on BBC ALBA Dargo and Finnie are both out for sons however Mark Lamont may return *to all fans going turn up early as over 2000 are expected*
Dumbarton went threw to the play off final after (somehow) holding onto a 0-0 draw with Arbroath.Stephen Grindlay produced a bumber of world class saves to keep the lichties at bay (sea related joke if you see what i did there).Dumbarton never really got going and should of been ahead early on when Gavin Swankie rounded keeper grindlay and shot towards goal only for Alan Lithgow to fly out of no where and header the ball off the line. The first half was one of few chances Craig Dargo had sons best when he rounded keeper Hill and then miss-hit his cross and Arbroath cleared. The second half was the Stephen Grindlay show first he tipped a Gavin Swankie free kick around the post before saving well from Malcom and Falkingham, then came the former Ayr keepers best save Stewart Malcoms header looked destined for the net before out of nowhere shay tipped the ball over the bar.Arbroath then had 8 corners in a five minute spell and ref Craig Thompson (who along with his linesman had an excellent game) angred the lichties fans by not awarding a penalty when Falkingham (who has a deserved reputation as a diver)tumbled in the box. But sons held on they will now face Airdrie United in the playoff final with the first leg at the DFS stadium this wednesday (7:45) and the second leg on Sunday (3) at the excelsior stadium.both games are also live on BBC ALBA
Dumbarton hold the first leg adavantage after seeing off arbroath in a nervy game at the DFS.The game started in and just 5 minutes in sons were dealt a hammer blow.Josh Falkingham whipped in a corner from the stand side of the pitch and stephen grindlay came off his line to gather the ball only to stop and leave Arbroath centre back Stewart malcom (who is about 6"5) to head in.Sons responded and Craig Dargo went on a few mazy runs the best of which was halted by Chris Innes. However they found their equaliser after 15 minutes lichties keeper Darren Hill spilled Scott Agnews rasping drive to the feet of Tony Wallace who bundled the ball home for his first top team goal The second half was a far less eventful affair former StJohnstone striker (who has found a pie aince his SPL days) went on a impressive run only to fire the ball well, well wide of stephen Grindlays goal. Then came the games turning point Arbroath right-back Mark Baxter tried to hook the ball away only to miss hit his clearence into the hands of keeper Hill ref Craig Charleston (who had a very poor night) noted this and awared sons an indirect free kick just outside the 6yard box Hill was booked for protesting, from the free kick Agnew rolled the ball to Bryan Prunty and the forward smashed in goal number 14 for the season. Both teams had a few chances after this but none of note apart from a Lee Sibanda effort for Arbroath which sailed over the bar when he should of done better.Still a good if not perfect result for sons going into tomorows second leg.3 fans buses are confirmed as going and i would urge any sons fans to get there and even if we lose you can still pick up a great fish supper!!!. First divison football may make its first visit to the rock.
Dumbarton today revealed the kits for next season they will be made by the clubs own brand 1872 and i personally love them a white and orange home kit finally what does everyone else think
Dumbarton headed into the playoffs on the back of a good result against mid table brechin.Sons started with a mainly reserve team and this showed as the first half was a bit of a non event but debut boys arnaud gastal and gary mckell showed some promise. The second half was a far more exciting affair.Brechin no10 Charlie King opened the scoring with a good volley into the bottom corner before the introduction of Pat Walker turned the game on its head, first David Gray played in Craig Dargo and the former inverness hitman made no mistake slotting low beyond David Scott.Minutes later it was two-one great play by Gray and Walker on the left opened up crossing space for gray who hit an inch perfect ball to Dargo to head in for number 2.Dargo completed his 17 minute hat-trick with a good header following a stramash infront of goal.Craig molloy gave the game a nervy finish until in the last minute of injury time another debutant Glenn Fergusson squeezed the ball between Scotts legs to settle the game. |
