In what can only be described as the greatest comeback of the season Dumbarton overcame a struggling Dunfermline side who they hadn't beaten at East End Park in over 20 years. The game started slowly with neither teams really threatening in appalling footballing conditions. Sons had the ball in the net after 34 minutes however after Scott Agnew played in Nicky Phinn but much to the annoyance of the away fans the linesman had raised his flag. Only 6 minutes later and the fife side were in the lead, former East Fife striker Ryan Wallace burst through the centre of the sons defence before turning Paul McGinn twice and dispatching past the motionless Stephen Grindlay. Sons could have equalised immediately when McGinn crossed but Bryan Prunty headed just wide, and that's how it stayed until half time. The second half started quickly and, after 48 minutes Andy barrowman ran through before sliding a bobbling effort beyond the slow to react Grindlay. Dumbarton pulled a goal back immediately after that with Steven Mcdougall doing well to squeeze his shot over the crowded goal line. However only 5 minutes after that a (very) offside looking Ryan Wallace squared for Barrowman to notch his second. Game over thought most of the 3000 people inside the old stadium, they couldn't of been more wrong. Four minutes after te former Inverness strikers second sons pulled a goal back, and what a goal it was. Chris Turner smacking a wonderful volley from 25yards beyond the disparing dive of Gallacher. Then a further 4 minutes after that sons drew level. Great work down the right by Jim Lister set up Scott Agnew and the ex Hamilton man made no mistake with an accurate firm shot that flew beyond Gallacher. The game had in a 10 minute spell been turned completely on its head and more was to follow when,in the 84th minute a slick counter attack found its way to McDougall and the ex pars winger made no mistake, capping what will surely be called in the papers a 'Bittersweet double'. Sons saw out the remainder of the game and rode their luck slightly at times but were good value for the result.
Ref: Alan Muir had a very decent game, not booking too many player and letting the game flow, the same cannot be said for the main stand side linesman who gave what can only be described as some 'curious calls' 9/10. Man of the match: Chris Turner was exceptional throughout yesterday,a great goal and a tough tackle on Josh Falkingham what more could you ask for! Next up Raith (home) Wednesday kick off 7:45

Despite a decent performance Partick Thistle came out comfortable winners against the sons at Firhill. There were changes galore with James Creaney being given his first league start in 2 months,Scott Agnew was rested and as was star man Jim Lister with the Hamilton game in mind. Sons started brightly and could of been ahead after only 3 minutes when a wonderful solo run from Garry Fleming resulted in an equal spectacular Scott Fox save onto the post. A few minutes later Fleming again tested the former Dundee keepers reactions with a low drive which he got down well to hold. Thistle took the lead however against the run of play, slack marking down the sons left allowed Stephen O'Donnell time to cross his ball in was knocked down by Steven Craig to the diminutive Stevie Lawless who hit a shot into the ground and beyond the reach of Stephen Grindlay for a goal that should be called Steven!. Dumbarton had a chance to equalise moments later when Fleming played in Mark Gilhaney but he could do no better than sting the hands of fox. And so that how the score stayed at half time. In the second half Sons again threatened but seemed to lack an end product, first Robbie Winters then Steven Mcdougall forced Fox into some fairly routine saves.Thistle still looked dangerous however and Craig had a what looked like a fair goal disallowed for alleged pushing. These squandered chances were made even more costly when Lawless turned Creaney before hitting a dipping shot over the top of the stranded Grindlay and into the net,Thistle could of added a third moments later, when impressive sub Christie Elliot squared for Kris Doolan but the former Clyde hitman could only smack the ball over. The jags did finally add a third in the 84th minute, Elliot burst free down the left and the former Whitby and Albion Rovers striker squared for Doolan who this time made no mistake from a yard out. The result puts Thistle in pole position for the title and leaves sons 9th still only 2 points behind cowdenbeath going into the Morton game.
Man of the Match: Garry Fleming, won everything in the air and was incredibly unlucky to be on the losing side. One thistle fan even said he was the best player on the pitch on the way out which says a lot. Ref: Iain Brines, another poor display from the alleged SPL official chalked off what looked like a perfectly good thistle goal and failed to show cards for poor tackles by Smith and Bannigan. |
